Applications included:
Abiword - a light wordprocessor which supports Microsoft Word files, as well as several other formats. It is, in my opinion, the best wordprocessor for Linux besides Openoffice.org itself.
Firefox - a web browser famed for its speed and rendering capabilities. In Feather, it is extended with FireFTP, an integrated FTP client, and Sage, an RSS reader.
Thunderbird - an extremely capable and aesthetically pleasing email and news client. It is, as the name suggests, developed by the Mozilla Foundation along with Firefox.
Ethereal - an industry-standard network analyser. It supports nearly every protocol imaginable.
Rox-filer - a file and icon manager which is extremely easy to use and visually pleasing.
Dillo - a web browser which renders pages extremely quickly. It was written in C, uses GTK+ and is about 300Kb in size. It also supports SSL, frames and tabs thanks to patches.
Siag - a spreadsheet which can read Microsoft Excel files, among other formats. It is very small for its complexity and features, and is distributed under the GPL.
gaim - an instant messaging program which supports a wide variety of protocols, including MSN, AIM, Yahoo, IRC and Jabber.
zile - a small console-based Emacs clone.
wavplay - A simple console WAV player
mpg321 - mpg321 is a clone of the popular mpg123 command-line mp3 player
ogg123 - A simple console OGG player
axyFTP - AxYFTP is an FTP program with a WSFTP-like interface.
cdrecord - cdrecord allows you to create CDs on a CD recorder (SCSI or ATAPI). It supports writing data, audio, mixed, multi-session, and CD+ and DVD discs, on just about every type of CD recorder out there
mkisofs - mkisofs is a pre-mastering program for creating ISO-9660 CD-ROM filesystem images, which can then be written to a CD-ROM using the cdrecord program. mkisofs now includes support for making bootable "El Torito" CD-ROMs, as well as CD-ROMs with support for the Macintosh HFS filesystem
rdesktop - rdesktop is an open source client for the Windows NT/2000 Terminal Server, capable of natively speaking its Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) in order to present the user's NT/2000 desktop
parted - GNU Parted is a program that allows you to create, destroy, resize, move and copy hard disk partitions. This is useful for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising disk usage, and copying data to new hard disks
partimage - Partition Image is a Linux/UNIX partition imaging utility: it saves partitions comprised of the Ext2FS (the Linux standard), ReiserFS (a new journaled and powerful file system), NTFS (Windows NT File System) or FAT16/32 (DOS & Windows file systems) file system formats to an image file.
antiword - Antiword is a free MS Word reader. It converts the binary files from MS Word 6, 7, 97 and 2000 to text and Postscript
e2undel - Interactive console tool to recover the data of deleted files on an ext2 file system under Linux. It does not require knowledge about how ext2 file systems works and should be usable by most people.
iftop - iftop does for network usage what top(1) does for CPU usage. It listens to network traffic on a named interface and displays a table of current bandwidth usage by pairs of hosts.
utelnetd - utelnetd is a tiny telnet server which is quite fast
picocom - a minimal dumb-terminal emulation program
gpart - Gpart is a tool which tries to guess the primary partition table of a PC-type disk in case the primary partition table in sector 0 is damaged, incorrect or deleted.
socat - Socat (for SOcket CAT) establishes two bidirectional byte streams and transfers data between them. Data channels may be files, pipes, devices (terminal or modem, etc.), or sockets (Unix, IPv4, IPv6, raw, UDP, TCP, SSL). It provides forking, logging and tracing, different modes for interprocess communication and many more options.
SciTE - a GTK-based programming editor with syntax highlighting support for many languages. Also supports folding sections, exporting highlighted text into colored HTML and RTF.
prozilla - Multi-threaded download accelerator
gmplayer - movie and audio player – it supports just about every format you can think of or play, including DVDs (except Quicktime)
mount.app - Dockapp for mounting and browsing devices, uses /etc/fstab
chntpw - This little program provides a way to view information and change user passwords in a Windows NT/2000 userdatabase file. Old passwords need not be known since they are overwritten.
tinycc - This is a small C compiler which creates executables much smaller than those of other compilers
nano - GNU nano is a free replacement for Pico, the default Pine editor.
Xpdf - A pdf format viewer
hdparm - get/set hard disk parameters for Linux IDE drives. Primary use is for enabling irq-unmasking and IDE multiplemode.
recoverdm - Another hard-disk recovery program
mtr - This combines ping and traceroute in a GTK+ graphical interface
betaftpd - A small FTP server which is extremely fast
Chipmunk Basic – A tiny Basic interpreter
gqcam - Gqcam is a program originally created to pull frames from a greyscale Connectix QuickCam, but that has grown into a frame grabber for most any Video4Linux compatible webcam- like camera
e3 - a very small editor
lua - The interpreter for the LUA scripting language
ettercap - Multipurpose sniffer/interceptor/logger for networks – very useful for many administration tasks
wavemon - Wavemon monitors wireless devices and produces various statistics such as graphs of connection speed.
iptables - The firewall provided with the Linux 2.4 and 2.6 kernels (Feather also includes a few helpful scripts to make configuration easier)
recover - Undelete files on ext2 partitions
amap - Amap allows you to probe IP ports for running protocols, ignoring the port number. It does this by sending probe packets to the port and analyzing the responses
hping2 - hping2 is a network tool able to send custom ICMP/UDP/TCP packets and to display target replies like ping does with ICMP replies
cabextract - a program to extract Microsoft Cabinet files
splitvt - run two programs in a split screen
pciutils - This package contains various utilities for inspecting and setting of devices connected to the PCI bus
LinNeighborhood - This package allows users to browse SMB (e.g. Windows Network Neighborhood) networks under X, and mount/unmount SMB shared filesystems via a graphical interface.
nmap and nmapfe - a utility for port scanning large networks, although it works fine for single hosts.
aumix - Simple text-based mixer control program
VNCviewer - A VNC client. VNC is a protocol which allows the control of remote systems.
sqlite - A small implementation of the SQL database.
SSH and SCP - secure shell and secure copy – used for file transfers and control of remote systems securely, as all transmissions are encrypted
zile - a small console-based Emacs clone.
fluxbox - a Blackbox-based window manager which has tabs, transparent menus, dockapp support, an icon bar, KDE/GNOME support and scrollwheel support. It's my favourite windowmanager, as it has the right balance of size and usability.
Xpaint - a program which isn't as advanced as the GIMP, but is still useful for general image editing nevertheless. It supports several file formats, including PPM, XBM and TIFF.
Xzgv - a picture viewer which supports a large number of image file formats.
XMMS - arguably the standard audio player for Linux, and rightly so.
CTorrent - a Bittorrent client which is written in C and is the smallest I could find.
